EIP-AGRI Seminar on Digital Innovation Hubs: mainstreaming digital agriculture

Discovery R&D Center participated in the two-days EIP-AGRI Seminar ‘Digital Innovation Hubs: mainstreaming digital agriculture’ orginised by the European Commission on the 1st and 2nd of June in Kilkenny, Ireland.

Rapid technological improvement and development found its applicability in agriculture as well. Researchers try to define which particular technologies could improve the sector, but not rarely their solutions are difficult to be understood and adopted by those that are intended to. Coping with this, European Union supports and promotes Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) – one-stop-shops enabling any business to access the latest knowledge, expertise and technology for testing and experimenting with digital innovations. DIHs represent connection between agricultural users and ICT suppliers, creating benefits for both parties and helping them improve their businesses.

The seminar was officially opened by Phil Hogan, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development and Paolo De Castro, MEP, First Vice-Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development. The seminar hosted participants from 24 countries. Policy makers, research and technology organisations, and other stakeholders discussed and defined the concept of DIHs in agriculture, analysed its possibilities and obstacles for future development, as well as priority actions for development of DIHs and collaboration among them on a European level.
